Back Pack or Duffel Bag
Sleeping Bag. Bag should be rated to 0 deg F, or rated to +20 deg F with a blanket inside sleeping bag. Place sleeping bag ina waterproof stuff sack or garbage bag. Foam Pad - It is very important to insulate yourself from the ground
Day Pack – Use to carry clothes for layering and misc. items: Poncho or Full Rain Suit, Flashlight – Bring either 2 flashlights or 1 w/ extra batteries and bulb
Knife No sheath knifes! Locking blades are preferred.
Boy Scout Handbook – Place in a zip-loc bag
Personal First Aid Kit
Matches – Place in a waterproof container
Wallet – Don’t forget extra spending money
Totin’ Chit - Place in handbook or wallet
Fireman Chit – Place in handbook or wallet
Snacks - Important to help stay warm!
MESS KIT – Canteen or water bottle, Spoon and/or fork Plastic bowl Drinking cup
CLOTHES Important: Avoid cotton!!! Cotton loses its ability to retain heat when it gets wet or damp including dampness from normal perspiration. Wool or synthetic materials are best. Scout Class ‘A’ Uniform, Under shorts – Strongly suggest non cotton Thermal underwear, Synthetic are best. 4 Pair Socks 2 thin inner 2 wool outer. Long sleeve shirt. Long pants. Wind pants - Substitute a 2nd pair of long pants if not available. Waterproofed hiking boots. Sweater or light jacket. Insulated parka or heavy coat. Face mask and/or stocking cap. Gloves or mittens – Suggest 2 pair if not waterproof . Sleeping clothes
TOILET KIT Special Medication should be placed in a zip-loc bag with instructions and given to a leader. Write scout’s name on bag! Hand towel and washcloth. Toilet paper (partial role) Soap Toothbrush and toothpaste
